Prevost to Manufacture all Coaches with Volvo D13 Engine

Ste. Claire, Quebec, April 7, 2010—Prevost is proud to announce that they will manufacture all of their vehicles with Volvo’s D13 Engine. In 2008, Detroit Diesel announced that they would no longer sell their engines to non-Daimler owned companies after 2009. At that time, Prevost committed their powertrain efforts to the Volvo 2010 D13 engine. Prevost will continue providing their customers with the Volvo D13, the best performing and most fuel efficient engine on the market. Prevost understands the distinct benefits that the Volvo engine provides their customers.

The Volvo D13 engine is the only 2010 engine that uses an existing platform, so it is the only engine platform that has been tested with years of real-world road conditions. The D13 platform has been used extensively on North American roads since 2007 and is already well known for its low-end performance, smooth, quiet operation, and high fuel economy. In addition, the 2010 D13 engine uses Advanced SCR technology (www.VolvoBusSCR.com), which has been well tested on European roads.

The Volvo D13 engine with Advanced SCR technology creates several advantages. Increased fuel efficiency brings fuel cost savings to operators. The new technology also eliminates active regeneration, saving additional fuel and increasing uptime. In addition, Volvo’s 2010 D13 engine meets and exceeds EPA 2010 emissions standards without the use of emissions credits, the only engine manufacturer to achieve this level of success.

Prevost will offer the Volvo D13 engine with an Allison Transmission or a Volvo I-Shift Transmission. Volvo designed the powertrain to take advantage of the distinctive coordination between the Volvo D13 engine and the Volvo I-Shift transmission. The Volvo Powertrain is the only complete powertrain in the industry that has been built as an integrated system. This integration results in better performance, greater fuel savings, and easier service scheduling.

Environmental care is a Prevost core value that supports our long-standing policy of conserving energy and protecting natural resources. We are deeply committed to minimizing the impact of our products and processes on the environment. Volvo’s D13 engine adheres to this philosophy, drastically lowering emission of air pollutants, with better performance and lower fuel consumption.

Prevost is confident that the Volvo Powertrain product is the smartest and highest quality solution for its customers.
